All donations for a project really go 100% only to that project!
Cristina can hardly take it anymore...
Cristina Barsateanu, from a small town in Romania, was once on our 'small projects list'.
Because we receive so many requests from all over the world, she had to wait a long time. In the meantime, Cristina's pack grew from 51 dogs and 39 cats to - don't be alarmed - 176 dogs and 64 cats…
More animals means more responsibility, more work, more stress and many more problems.
“In fact,” admits Cristina, “the worries have run so high that I can hardly take it anymore. There is still so much to do, so much still needed.
Winter is now at its worst for the animals and I can't give them enough warmth and enough food to withstand the freezing cold.”
Almost every animal found appears to be injured.
Cristina knows better than anyone that the only real solution for the very large numbers of stray animals is extensive sterilization.
So she started telling people about free sterilizations in other towns. A number of people wanted to have their animal helped, but to make an effort yourself?
Since Cristina doesn't have a car of her own, she had to pay someone to drive her. Of course she didn't have any benches or cages either, but stacked the animals in simple crates on top of each other in the car. 15 pieces at once.
At home, all helped animals were cared for for a few more days until they could safely go to their owner or were strengthened enough to go out on the street again.
Please note: Cristina has no staff and few supporters anyway… Her only helper is her own mother.
Please provide a place for her vulnerable animals.
All the animals are in her house and garden, which is now literally overcrowded. She – and therefore the animals – lack everything.
We asked what was most important. And that was not one thing but three.
First of all, in the old house there are 2 rooms that could be renovated with our donations. The puppies, the old and vulnerable dogs and the animals that need extra care could stay dry and warm there.
Second, please new decent wind and waterproof dog houses. And third, she would like to build a large outdoor enclosure for the cats. They cannot walk around loose outside, then they will be killed by a car or fall prey to the malicious.
It's heartwarming to see the animals rev up and change from scared to friendly wagging their tails when they see Cristina. From just a body of skin and bones to a healthy body with flesh on the bones, from a bare skin full of sores to a shiny coat....

Turn your birthday into an animal day!
Our volunteer Egbert Poell showed this week that sometimes getting donations for our foundation can be very simple.
For his birthday this year, he asked his family and friends to make a donation to our foundation.
Everyone happy, because:
— What's there to give to each other as adults? (Most of us have everything we need already.)
— Just nice to give something that really pleases the birthday boy/girl.
— And the birthday boy himself will be very happy if this generates an impressive amount of money for animals in need!
But you can of course also use this idea for any anniversary, retirement, so many years of marriage, etc.
You helped Spiridoula very well!
Our Little Project 97 was destined for the wonderful work that Spiridoula, the little Greek woman in Corfu has been doing almost all her life: helping animals in need!
Small indeed, but oh so brave. Over sixty and not only working hard every day for her eighty animals, but even chopping wood for other people to earn a penny to properly feed, house and care for all her darlings.
We asked Conny van Ginkel, a Dutch woman who lives in Corfu and is our interpreter, what was done with the donations.
She wrote to us:
"First of all, an outstanding bill for the food of the dogs and cats has been paid and some vet bills for sterilizations, among other things. The donated money also helped a few dogs who had heartworm and urgently needed treatment for it.
But the dog Angelo has now also been helped by an operation in which his leg had to be amputated. At the vet it turned out that the leg had been broken for much longer, even in two places. An amputation was necessary, but whoever thinks that Angelo gave up… no.
Angelo seemed relieved. He was already used to walking on three legs and now that the 'heavy' thing was off he became even more cheerful and lively. Angelo is hopping and now playing with Spiridoula in her pack.'
Thank you very much for everything you have done for us. You are top notch!!! Kind regards and lots of love from Corfu. We wish you all the best and maybe see you soon."
No Conny and Spiridoula, you AND our donors are the real toppers!
And... you understand that new donations are still very welcome!
